How to Get Grease Stains Out for Good

Grease or oil-based stains can be tricky, but a few key tips make handling them no sweat.

It’s no secret that oily stains are among the trickiest and most annoying stains to get out—but that’s no reason to give up on your grease-stained clothes! With a little patience and a few go-to remedies (plus a laundry detergent that’s up to the task), even the toughest grease stain is no match for you. Say yes to all your favorite dishes (pizza night, anyone?) without sacrificing any of your favorite staples.

Tips for Pre-Treating

• Oil and water famously don’t mix, so avoid getting any water on the stain until you’re ready to pre-treat (see: The Vinegar Trick below).
• If possible, pull any excess oil from the grease stain by placing a cloth or rag on top and gently blotting—be sure not to rub as rubbing will only further set the stain.
• Life gets busy, but try to handle any grease stains ASAP! The sooner you deal with it, the less likely it is to permanently stain.

The Vinegar Trick

• In a vessel large enough to soak your piece of clothing, combine one part water with one part vinegar.
• Soak your item in the water-vinegar solution for at least 30 minutes.
• After 30 minutes, gently scrub with a soft brush (an old toothbrush will do).
• Rinse with water and repeat as needed.
  

Removal by Oxi Laundry Booster

• Mix a small amount of Blueland Oxi Laundry Booster with water and dab into the grass stain. Let sit for a few minutes.
• Using a soft brush (an old toothbrush, for example) gently work the Oxi Laundry Booster into the fabric to lift the stain.

How to Wash Grease-Stained Clothing

• Ideally, you should wash any grease-stained clothing separately from the rest of your laundry. Oil-based stains are known to transfer.
• Be sure to use cold water, as hot water can set an oil-based stain.
• Use Blueland’s enzyme-based Laundry Detergent Tablets to gently and effectively lift any lingering oil residue during the wash cycle.
• Check for any residual grease-stains, and repeat from the pre-treat if needed!
• Hang dry or dry with your dryer on delicate/gentle.
